Houston’s art scene is rarely anything less than vibrant; right now, though, there’s just something special in the air.

With Twilight Epiphany Skyspace lighting up the sky again, it feels like someone turned the vibe up a notch. (Or, maybe it’s just the weather finally cooling off-ish… not really.) Every exhibition I’ve stepped into lately has left me feeling energized and inspired: Yoshitaka Amano: Big Bang was a captivating visual feast; Radiant Geometries left me contemplating indigenous wisdom; Tide and Time made me miss the rhythm of the ocean.

If you do leave the house this weekend and art is on the agenda, you absolutely cannot go wrong with any of these three.

LATELY IN HOUSTON

No juggling talent required. Houstonia's arts editor went undercover at Cheerful Clown Alley, Houston's oldest clown school (est. 1983), for a $250, two-month crash course in balloon animals, walkarounds, and pratfalls. Alright, alright, alright. Matthew McConaughey's Copland narration turned Houston Symphony's September 19th gala into its most successful opening night ever, raising $881K.
