In some great news: we hit 1,000 subscribers! Thank you all so much for sticking around. We appreciate all the kind comments and feedback in your email replies. The reason why we tagline OTH’s socials “Houston’s favorite newsletter” is because those are YOUR words, not ours. It’s a great honor we aim to live up to every single edition we publish. To celebrate we have a fun giveaway to Montrose Cheese and Wine below!
This weekend there’s obviously the “July 4th of it all” and World Cup so if you haven’t yet, this is your sign to be outside!

LATELY IN HOUSTON
24/7 waffles, please. Waffle House is coming for the suburbs: five new Montgomery County locations are in the works for Conroe, Kingwood, New Caney, Porter, and Splendora, all hugging the Eastex and I-45 corridors. Notably, still zero locations inside the loop. Chron
Htown’s lit scene lives on. After 31 years, Rich Levy is leaving Inprint and Houston's literary scene in remarkably good shape. The poet-turned-executive-director helped transform a city once dismissed as a cultural wasteland into a legitimate literary destination. Houstonia Magazine
“Grandiloquence.” Reading With A Rapper launched Houston's first sports-style spelling bee on Juneteenth with jerseys, quarters, thunder sticks and all. Over 40 students competed, with 12-year-old Journey Ards winning the inaugural crown by spelling "grandiloquence" without flinching. Forward Times
Wes Anderson’s homecoming. Wes Anderson is coming home to Houston to help save the nearly 80-year-old Garden Oaks Theater from demolition. A July 17 benefit at Zilkha Hall includes a rare short film screening and Q&A. Arthouse Houston must raise $7.1 million by July 30, or the wrecking ball wins. Paper City Magazine

This week’s drinks are on us! That means 3 readers will receive a $15 gift card to Montrose Cheese & Wine. All you have to do is open this edition. (If you’re reading this you just did, nice!)
Winners will be randomly selected and emailed tomorrow morning.
Want to collab on a future issue and treat readers to coffee on you? Hit reply.
