LATELY IN HOUSTON

“Divorced dad rock.” Creed hit Houston Rodeo last night and 400+ fans dressed as divorced dads. The whole thing was organized by two 32-year-old women with zero divorces and zero kids. Think Ed Hardy, Affliction shirts, spiky hair, early-aughts angst. Earnest, nostalgic, and deeply sincere, “divorced dad rock” is less about the meme and more about the connection. (Unironically.)

Elevated boils for the very discerning eater. Josephine's executive chef Lucas McKinney is back with the Backyard Boil Series featuring star chefs Mike Pham (Trill Burgers), Ope Amosu (ChòpnBlọk), Jeff Chancaleune (Ma Der Lao Kitchen), and pitmaster Evan LeRoy. Sundays, 2-6pm, Midtown patio. Laotian, Vietnamese, West African, Texas BBQ meets Gulf Coast crawfish. Reserve via Resy two weeks ahead.

Ocean Express Car Wash wants Houston's filthiest ride. Winner gets free "The Works" washes for a year. Post your dirty car on Instagram, tag @OceanExpressCarWash by National Car Wash Day on March 28th to participate. Southeast Texas pollen, dust, and grimy rain make you a prime candidate.

Submit your best shot! HEB Quest For Texas Best returns with $100K in prizes: $50K and shelf space for the winner. The contest hunts down the best Texas-made products with applications open through April 22nd. Top four present to a panel in October. Last year's winner was Oca Foods' peanut butter bites. Yum!

*cries in (no) expense accounts* Tilman Fertitta's 1932 Cattleman's Club at Houston Rodeo is loud luxury: Saudi wedding–sized tent, staghorn chandeliers, $85 ribeyes, and $800 Dom Pérignon. Sequined crowds, machete-wielding servers presenting forty-ounce tomahawks, and a gift shop peddling $4K Louis Vuitton purses. Big spending, and an even bigger atmosphere.
