Yoshitaka Amano: Big Bang! Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano's new show is on view soon at Asia Society Texas. Think Klimt meets pop-art candy girls meets Buddhist deities, proof the "Speed Racer" guy has range beyond nostalgia. Opens Sept. 23rd. Houston Chronicle

Fifteen, and (already) out-fundraising galas. Kamila Almodovar's quinceañera at Le Tesserae went full fairytale: 175 guests, 43,000 flowers flown in from Ecuador and Colombia, a seven-tier cake jetted in from Miami, mariachi and DJ sets, and a Cinderella-blue gown. Kamila donated all her gift money to PetSet and gave every floral arrangement to Petal Power for local nonprofits. PaperCity

“Bring a pocket-sized ‘artifact.’” Artist and cultural anthropologist Marlon Hall hosted his Ecotone dinner series at Lymbar that turned strangers into community. Guests were asked to bring a family artifact and wear a outfit you want to be remembered by. Intriguing! Houstonia Magazine
