LATELY IN HOUSTON
“Frida: The Making of an Icon.” The highly anticipated Frida Kahlo exhibition opens soon at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston on Monday, January 19th. The retrospective will feature more than 30 works by the legendary artist and feature other artists that Frida inspired as well. MFAH members can preview the exhibition early this weekend starting on Friday, January 15th.
Socialize without actually talking. Nice. Blue Willow Bookshop's bimonthly silent reading parties lets introverts have their cake and eat it too. Bring your book, sip free wine, and enjoy parallel play with fellow bibliophiles (plus shop dog Jacky Dawson, if she deems you worthy). Leave with new book recommendations, zero small talk required. The next event is January 17th.
Spotted: A (shirtless) cowboy running the marathon. Last Sunday the Chevron Marathon Houston brought out 30k participants and over 250k total in attendance. Tons of creative signs like “We’re going to the cottage,” and “Where are y’all going?” cheered runners on their path, plus a handful of folks in silly costumes made the biggest single day sporting event in Houston fun and festive.
Rodeo's 2026 lineup is here: heavy on country, light on diversity. Houston gets hometown hero Lizzo, plus Kelly Clarkson, J Balvin, and Shaboozey. The roster doesn't quite mirror America's most diverse city, but hey, more women performers are saddling up. Progress rides in slowly. Yeehaw.
Disney meets jazz is finally hitting Doc's. Brandon Guerra and Adam Carrillo swing through "Bare Necessities," "When You Wish Upon a Star," and more childhood classics with a grown up groove. Family-friendly nostalgia meets sophisticated cool plus, of course, yummy chef-crafted bites and cocktails. Bibbidi-bobbidi-bebop your way there to Doc’s Jazz Club’s Disney Night.

This week’s coffee is on us! That means 3 readers will get a $10 gift card to Love Croissants. All you have to do is open today’s issue and you’ll be entered to win.
Winners will be randomly selected and emailed tomorrow morning.
Want to sponsor a future issue and treat readers to a local coffee spot on you? Hit reply.
