LATELY IN HOUSTON

DaCamera's launching a record label after 35 years. (Blame COVID). The Houston classical and jazz music org's first release: Tyshawn Sorey's 75-minute "Monochromatic Light (Afterlife)," is dropping January 30. Creative control, full liner notes, and putting Houston's "best kept secret" arts scene on the map. Pandemic silver linings exist, apparently.

Yee-haw meets fine art. Houston Rodeo's art program isn't just a seasonal fling, it runs year-round. Forty handpicked high school artists hit Kerrville's Western Art Academy for a four-week, all-expenses-paid intensive covering technique, history, and cowboy culture. Learn to paint horses (the ultimate test), earn college credit, maybe sell your work for $200K+. Nice.

Adorable pups close the deal. Memorial Villages realtor uses rescue dogs as furry marketing team for $5.7M Piney Point listing. Duke, Miel, Naala, and Canon posed poolside in the 9,241-square-foot contemporary home, attracting animal lovers while spotlighting Animal Justice League nonprofit. Modern homes sell slower here, but who can resist those puppy-dog eyes?

Houston's glitzy new members-only club Maître D opens. Think Drake's Hollywood's chic sibling with golden leather, 126 seats, and old Hollywood glamour. Preview night brought Dom Pérignon, Bun B, and serious exclusivity vibes. Membership: $5K/couple, $3K/solo. Applications flooding in faster than champagne pours. Apparently applications already drowning their inboxes. Good luck getting in!

This week’s coffee is on us! That means 3 readers receive a $10 gift card to Matcha Mia (Richmond Ave). All you have to do is open today’s issue and you’ll be entered to win.

Winners will be randomly selected and emailed tomorrow morning.
