LATELY IN HOUSTON

Homegrown Houston film. Black Cinema Club HTX just wrapped its inaugural film festival with three days of masterclasses, a film grants ceremony, and a sold-out Michael screening with Missouri City native Kendrick Sampson. In under a year, they've built Houston's only filmmaker grants program. Forward Times

While it’s hot! Live Nation's "Summer of Live" deal means $30 tickets to Houston-area shows. Think Demi Lovato, Jack Harlow, Ari Lennox, Cody Jinks, and more. Deal runs through May 5. Houston Chronicle

“The Gift of Drawing.” See 121 Cy Twombly drawings gifted to the Drawing Institute (only 27 on view now), and John Akomfrah's immersive six-channel film honoring the young, unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. Houston Chronicle

More Houston art, please? Three Houston art shows worth your weekend: Clutch City Craft at HCCC celebrates Houston-made objects from swangas to NASA boots. Artist Breakfast The Exhibit on Ruth Street spotlights a tight-knit Montrose artist community bridging generations. Jaylen Pigford's surrealist oil paintings at Ruby Projects feel urgent, uneasy, and very much of this moment. Substack
