Whether you endearingly call it “-BER” months, fall, or Quarter 3-almost-Quarter 4, we’re very close to entering another season of the year (and tbh today’s gloomy weather is helping.) Personally, the season of change and falling leaves is my favorite; I feel like I’m allowed to change too.

So much to look forward to this month! Friends of the Houston Public Library Book Sales are back, which is the perfect time to stock up on good reads and DVDs while supporting our local library. The ever-so-popular annual Japan Festival will be back again, if you’re up for dealing with crowds (go early).

Blaffer Art Museum is hosting its end-of-summer soirée, Cocktails in the Courtyard, on Sept. 19th. It’ll feature exhibitions by artists Adriana Corral and Maria Gaspar, with live music by Bayou City Funk Band. The after party will be held at Bar Daphne (and you know we love a good after party around here).

If you, like me, ever wanted to salsa dance at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, don’t sleep on their new fall salsa series starting on Fridays on Sept 18th. Lastly, Selena (1997) will be playing outdoors under the stars at Discovery Green on Sept 19th.

Better and brighter. Rice's James Turrell Skyspace, Twilight Epiphany, flicks its light show back on September 15th after 28 months dark. New onsite: A $500K glow-up split between Rice and the Moody, and LEDs under Turrell's own supervision. Same meditative vibe, just brighter. Last call at Pappasitos! The OG location of Pappasitos, endearingly Sito’s #1, on Richmond is closing. After over four decades in business, its final day will be on September 13th. A sign of the times? Maybe. Adios, Sito’s. Houstonia Magazine

That doesn’t mean nightlife is completely gone, though; it just looks different. From R&B parties, to speakeasies, to themed spots, everything is a club these days.
