Hello, new subscribers! Welcome to October.

If you, like me, are slightly panicking about all the cool things happening in Houston and you’re wondering how you’re going to fit it all in, you’re in good company. Many exciting festivals and events are happening simultaneously in the coming days, making my head swirl just a tiny bit.

Untitled Art is back for its second year in Houston. Founded in 2012, it’s a leading contemporary art fair that originally takes place in Miami. Now they’re here to stamp their cultural footprint in H-town.

I highly recommend going for at least one day to see works from tons of artists from all over the world, especially if you are a creative, artist, fine art collector or art enthusiast (or ally, as I like to endearingly say). There are also pop-up events happening around the city that don’t require tickets such as: “Hotel Daphne and Cat Spring Collection: Matt Kleberg in Conversation with Hesse McGraw” at Bar Daphne (which was last night), “Untitled After Dark” at Jardín on Friday, and a community walk, “Blue Bones, a public art project by Houston-based artist Reynier Leyva Novo Third Ward Community Walk” on Sunday. Single day admission to Untitled Art is $40. (Btw Southern Smoke Festival is also this Saturday next door at Discovery Green.)

Houston Cinema Arts Festival, the largest international and independent film festival in Houston, is also happening October 1-11. Its programming this year is really exceptional with screenings like Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Atonement, Mickey, and more with screenings at MFAH and more venues across the city. Take some time to take a good look at their schedule and see if anything stands out to you. Tickets for single events start at around $15 and an all access-pass is $300 (or half off if you are a student).

Last thing that’s intriguing me: the Truth Booth.

The Truth Booth is a traveling interactive public art installation that will be at the Rothko Chapel on Saturday and Sunday. The project invites people to speak what’s on their minds and hearts, ultimately creating a mosaic of human truths. The project has already traveled across the globe including Ireland, Afghanistan, Mexico, and more. Now it’s here this weekend for you to spill your tea!

Get out there and enjoy Houston!

LATELY IN HOUSTON

Houston's art scene is NOT aging out! UH's Blaffer Art Museum launched its first-ever "Cocktails in the Courtyard" fundraiser, and the young patron set showed up in force. Outdoor installations, indoor galleries, and an after-party at Hotel Daphne turned a garden party into the museum's new signature night. PaperCity

The chef pipeline. PX Project turns a working café into a launchpad: young Houstonians earn $13/hr learning knife skills, teamwork, and resilience over 18 weeks. Only 40% stay in culinary, but founder Meredith Davis calls that a win! Houstonia Magazine

Montrose's pride is back. Mayor Whitmire personally paid $10K for 10 new rainbow banners along Westheimer, sidestepping city funds after Abbott's crosswalk crackdown led to arrests and a paved-over rainbow crossing. "Safeguard the banners from political intervention," Whitmire says. Classic Texas workaround, no public money, no legal loophole left unclosed. Houston Chronicle
