Matchbook collecting is one of our favorite things to do in Houston. The thrill of the hunt is just as fun as stumbling upon on one accidentally.

Here are 6 spots where I equally enjoy the establishment as much as the matchbooks they provide—as well as a (working) Google Maps guide here. Did we miss something, or is something outdated? Let us know!

They’re yellow, cigarette box matchboxes are truly one of a kind. The hospitality at Marigold Club is also unmatched. If you stop in, say hi to Anne for us!

I will glady return to Yiayia’s any time, and any day just for their smoked eggplant dip. The matchboxes are that standard matchbox size. Since it’s up at the hostess stand, it’s easy to pocket!

Who doesn’t love Johnny’s Gold Brick? Great drinks that are reasonably priced. A cool spot is a place that makes you feel cool. Johnny’s Gold Brick is just that.

I love a good diner. I appreciate Agnes & Sherman’s take on the American diner and the feel of the restaurant is just so cozy! They have the best mahjong nights in town imo. Their large, flat style matchbooks instantly became a fav!

Calling WFH and remote workers! I’ve worked at plenty of coworking spots from WeWork to smaller indepedent ones. Switchyards is completely different in all the best ways. It has the vibe of coffee shop, boutique hotel lounge, and college library which makes it perfect for getting your best work done.

Ok, ok. I know Refuge doesn’t have their own matchbooks but Anvil does and if you ask very nicely lead bartender Julia will make a custom one for you! (If y’all abuse this I will take this down.)
